TEDDY SCHAPIRO

(1964-2013)Teddy Schapiro was a developmentally disabled artist with a personality disorder. Teddy was born and raised in New York City. Both of his parents were professional artists so he was exposed to a lot of different forms of art. His mother took him to a lot of plays and he loved watching old movies. He also had collections of vintage items including old movie posters. The figures in his paintings look like movie stills and are wearing clothing from the 30s and this era of movies. The figures are usually in isolation from each other much as Teddy lived socially isolated. Most of his paintings were all done in the 90s, he painted in oil on canvas.
